Joannes Beeckman died in Okegem on August 1 1632. See the post for that date. He married Francisca Waije. They became "buitenpoorters" of Aalst in 1602.
They had five recorded children, all born in Okegem :
-- Maria, born in 1603. In 1622 she married Judocus Vernaillen, sexton. Her husband died in 1652 ; she followed in 1663. They are among my ancestors ;
-- Jacobus, born in 1606 : he married Margareta Van den Waterloop ;
-- Joannes, born in 1609. He became a soldier and married in Brussels ;
-- Petrus, born in 1613. He was alive in Okegem in 1642 ;
-- Joanna, born in 1616.
Joannes held a fief of the Ninove castle (burcht). He herited this fief (two "dagwand") from his brother Jacob Beeckman, parish priest and dean of St Martin's church in Aalst.

Laurentius De Leeuw
See the post on "July 23 1728".
Laurentius De Leeuw was buried in Okegem. He probably lived most - if not all - of his life in Impegem, now a hamlet of Liederkerke, which was part of the Okegem parish at that time. He was over eigthy years old when he died. He was a son of Guilielmus De Leeuw and Judoca Van den Waterloop and married twice.
In 1669 he married Adriana Van Ginderdeuren and they had three children :
-- Passchasia (Okegem 1669 - 1688) ;
-- Guilelmus, born in Okegem in 1671 and who married twice ;
-- Joanna (born in Okegem in 1674) and who died in 1751, ca 80 years old. She never married.
In 1680 Laurentius married Catharina Reybosch, who died in 1700. They had seven children.
-- Elisabeth, born in 1681 ;
-- another Elisabeth, born in 1682 ;
-- Maria, born in 1686. She lived to be married ;
-- Gaspard, born in 1689, who married in Pamel and sired an extensive family ;
-- Jacoba, born in 1697. Her husband died in 1769 ;
-- Adriana, born in 1700, who died in 1745 "ca sixty years old" ??. She was buried a pauper ( by the "armentafel"). Adriana and her half-sister Joanna, continued to live together in the family home in the Kouterbaan, at least for some time. In 1736 - 1745 they were supported by the "armentafel". We also know that Adriana's house was repaired by the poor in 1741 - 1742. In those same years she received clothing from the poor. There is no mention of Joanna then. It is slightly ironic that their father had been an administrator of the "poor's table".
-- Catharina, who died in Okegem in 1757, and who married Egidius Vernaillen in Iddergem in 1716. Egidius died in Okegem in 1759. They are among my ancestors.
In 1678, Elisabeth Guldemont had a natural son. She named Laurentius De Leeuw as the natural father.

July 10 1663 (again)
Maria Beeckman died in Okegem where she had been baptized on May 19 1603. She was a daughter of Joannes and Francisca Waije. In 1622 she married Judocus Vernaillen, who died in Okegem in 1652. Witnesses for the marriage were Cornelius Beeckman, bailiff, and Petrus De Wenne, mayor.
Judocus became sexton - schoolteacher after his brother Adriaan's death in 1647. He maintained the watch in the churchtower and was an alderman in Okegem in 1644 and 1647.
They had eight children, two of which became "buitenpoorters" of Aalst. Various documents concerning this household have survived.
For detailed information see the post "July 10 1663" which I wrote last year.

Gasparus (Jaspar) Van der Sleyen was born in Pamel, a son to Judocus (Pamel 1652 - 1704) and Emmerentia De Vleeshouwer, who died in Pamel in 1707.
In 1714 Gasparus married Catharina Huylenbroeck (Pamel ca 1685 - 1751). They had eight children. I descend from number six : Ferdinandus (Pamel 1724 - 1810) who married Joanna Vernaillen (Impegem 1725 - Pamel 1791) in Okegem in 1751.
Gasparus died in Pamel on July 2 1749.
The descendance has been touched upon in various posts, including "January 22 1670" and "April 29 1724".
By the way, Joanna Vernaillen was a fifth generation descendant of Gijsbrecht Vernaillen whom we mentioned in the previous post.

June 24 1637
On that day, Gijsbrecht Vernaillen, sexton for over half a century, from 1586 to 1637, died in Okegem, where he was buried the next day. The parish priest wrote that he had exercised his job with care and precision ("grootste zorgvuldigheid"). In those troubled times, that must have meant a lot.
Gijsbrecht married Judoca Schoenmaeckers who died in 1632. They became "buitenpoorters" of Aalst in 1595.
They had five children. I descend from three of them. See the post for "December 28 1632".

On that day, Niclaas De Mol died in Okegem. His grandfather was sexton in Outer.
In 1666 Niclaas married Livina Vernaillen, a daughter of the sexton of Okegem. Like the Van der Sleyen's mentioned in the previous blog, they were poor and had to be assisted by the parish.
Their son Judocus (Okegem 1669 - 1735) also was dependent on assistance in those troubled times.
Judocus had a son, Joannes (Okegem 1699 -1777) who became a member of the parish council ("kerkfabriek") and who was the father of Joanna (Okegem 1733 - 1791). Joanna was the mother of Cornelius Van der Speeten (Okegem 1772 - 1806).
I have covered this territory before.
Alexandrina Van der Speeten (Okegem 1795 - 1831) was a daughter of Cornelius, and her daughter Catharina Asselman (Okegem 1823 - 1892) was the mother of my great-grandfather Hermilianus Neukermans, the fourth of her five children.
Catharina died when her grandson, my grandfather Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (Okegem 1886 - 1961) was about 6 years old.

On that day, Adrianus Vernaillen, sexton and schoolmaster, died in Okegem, where he had been baptized on November 8 1605. About a month before his death he became "buitenpoorter" of Geraardsbergen. We met Barbara before in the post "September 23 1630".
The line from Cornelia Vernaillen, the daughter of Adrianus and Barbara, to myself has been described in that post and others.
