April 12 1400
Sweder III van Abcoude - of Dutch extraction - lord of Gaasbeek, Putten en Strijen, died in Radda, Tuscany, Italy on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. He was a descendant (20 generations or thereabouts) of Charlemagne.He was a heavyweight in regional history. Legend has it that he was a ferocious land robber and the instigator of the murder, in 1388, of the Brussels folk hero, Everaert tSerclaes, whose momument on the Grand'Place is world famous (millions of tourists have polished his brass arm).
According to other sources, Sweder was not the bully depicted in many a story, but a devout and just man. Be that as it may, the Brussels militia burnt his castle at Gaasbeek (yes, that's the one) to the ground in vengeance for the murder of Everaert.
Sweder had a bastard daughter Clementia van Gaesbeke, who was born ca 1365. Clementia died young but lived to see the fifteenth century.
She married Jan van de Voorde, born ca 1365, and their daughter Margriete (ca 1385 - ca 1444) married Joannes Pipenpoy (ca 1385 - Brussel ca 1467).
Four generations later (one Willem and three Jan Pipenpoy's) Maria Pipenpoy was born . She married Zeger Van Cutsem (Sint Martens Lennik ca 1620 - 1681).
From there on, the story has been written before (see various posts including : "January 20 1552").
I shall write more extensively about the (in)famous Sweder in a later post. A lot of material can be found in regional history books and on the net.
I shall also go into more detail into the Pipenpoy family at a later date.

Zeger Van Cutsem, who had been born ca 1620 in Sint Martens Lennik died in Sint Kwintens Lennik. As I have written before, he was a relatively important guy. He married Barbara Walravens (Sint Pieters Leeuw 1623 - Sint Kwintens Lennik 1699).
They had 10 children : I descend from the seventh : Barbara, who was born in Sint Martens Lennik and married Christianus Galmaert (Gooik 1654 - 1718) in 1680.

Cornelia Van Overstraeten, who had been born in Ste Gertrudis Pede died in St Martens Lennik.
In 1534, she married Jan Pipenpoy, lord of Bossuyt and alderman of Lennik, who died in 1553. The lived in hof Ten Berg in Ste Gertrudis Pede and are buried in the church of St Martens Lennik, in front of the altar of St Anthony. They had 13 children.
Their son Jan Pipenpoy married Elisabeth Goossens and died in 1615 in St Martens Lennik. Like his father he was lord of Bossuyt and alderman of Lennik (in 1598 and 1601), and lived in hof Ten Berg. They are buried in the same church. They had six or seven children.
Jan and Elisabeth had a daughter Maria Pipenpoy, who married Joannes Van Cutsem. Joannes was born ca 1580. They lived in hof te Opcureghem and Joannes was alderman of Anderlecht in 1625. In 1634 they are mentioned as farmers (pachters) of hof te Budingen in Halle. In his later years Joannes was also reported as alderman of Lennik.

On that day, Barbara Walravens died in Sint Kwintens Lennik. She had been born on September 5 1623 in Sint Pieters Leeuw, the cradle of the Walravens family. Barbara married Zeger Van Cutsem, born in Sint Martens Lennik ca 1620, who died in Sint Kwintens Lennik in 1681. They were relatively important farmers and Zeger has been an alderman. According to one source (to be verified) he also was lord of Bossuyt through his descendance of the Pipenpoy family. In any case, they both came from a line of important farmers ("pachters"). They had 10 children.

Willem Pipenpoy who had been born around 1410 died - probably in Brussels - and was buried in the choir of the church in St-Martens-Lennik. He married Cathelijne de Buttere, said Haeckmans, in 1460 and was alderman of Brussels in 1468 and treasurer of Brussels in 1483.
I shall not detail the generations leading from Willem to me in this post. I shall write a post about my descendence from this well known family of Brussels' patricians at a later time. A great deal is known about this family and its alliances, but the direct line appears to have died out somewhere in the nineteenth century.
The link from the Pipenpoys to the De Vidts family, and thus to my father and to my mother, includes members of the Van Cutsem and the Galmaert families (see also "September 5 1623").
