A possible breakthrough
For years I have been trying to find where the first two Neukermans in Okegem came from. I was (and am) convinced that they were related, but I haven't yet fully clarified that link.
-- Andreas Neukermans (son of Judocus) married Barbara Van de Waterloop in Okegem in 1698.
-- Jacobus Neukermans, son of Petrus, married Maria De Winne in Okegem in 1717. They are my ancestors. Jacobus probably stranded in Okegem during a visit to Andreas and Barbara.
I have been looking a bit more closely at the data of Rik Van Hauwe (http://www.rikvanhauwe.be/) and am now almost satisfied that I have found the origins of Jacobus. I always considered the possibility that he might have been born in Denderwindeke - but up to now I had found no convincing link.
I am not fully certain still, but there is a lot of circumstantial evidence which makes me think that Jacobus Neuckermans was born in Denderwindeke in 1694.
Rik Van Hauwe has copied his birth i.e. baptism on "January 30 1694", but remarks that there must be an error in the records (he adds that it is not the only error in that period) because Nicolaas, an elder brother of Jacobus, was baptised on December 12 1693.
This Jacobus was a son of Petrus Neuckermans from Denderwindeke, who married Anna Vanden Haute. Petrus and Anna had six sons in Denderwindeke.
A Petrus Neuckermans and an Anna Vanden Haute were godparents of some of the children of Joannes Neukermans from Denderwindeke who married Joanna Asselman from Okegem. And Joanna's mother was Anna Van de Waterloop, a sister of Barbara Van de Waterloop who married Andreas Neuckermans.
The circumstantial evidence is mounting ... and keeps mounting when one looks at the godparents of the children of Jacobus and Maria De Winne.

My great-great-grandfather Amandus Neukermans, a millers helper, died in Okegem, Rattenbergstraat. He was born in Okegem on March 15 1824 and thus was barely 37 years old when he passed away. Whether he died by illness or by accident, I haven't researched (yet).
On September 6 1849 he married Catharina Asselman (Okegem 1823 - 1893). Both of the spouses could write their name, which was not too common at that time. Catharina never remarried.
They had five children :
-- Maria Elisabeth Neukermans (Okegem 1849 - 1892). She was "landbouwster" (at that moment in time most people were) and married Karel Lodewijk Cobbaert (Okegem 1851 - 1898), a carpenter ;
-- Rosalia Neukermans (Okegem 1851 - 1922). She was a glove maker - a common female occupation in Okegem in the 19th and early 20th century (my mother's mother and my mother also were glove makers). She married Adrianus Cobbaert (Okegem 1845 - 1918), a carpenter and brother of Karel Lodewijk ;
-- Clara Cecilia Neukermans (Okegem 1853 - 1854). She died one day before her first birthday ;
-- Hermilianus Neukermans (Okegem 1855 - 1832), farmer and "kloefkapper" (he made wooden shoes), who married Clementia Broeckaert (Okegem 1858 - 1939), a glove maker. They were my great-grandparents ;
-- (Jozef ?) Ferdinandus Neukermans (Okegem 1858 - 1939), farmer. Like his brother he lived on the Rattenberg - they probably split the property of their parents (to be verified). Ferdinandus married Odila Maria Broeckaert (Okegem 1862 - 1945), who also was a glove maker, and a sister of Clementia.
Ferdinandus was born some months after his father's death, and even his slightly older brother, my great-grandfather, could not possibly have had any direct memories about his father.

Of all the people mentioned by name in this post "tante Adèle" is the only one I have known personally. She was a direct neigbour of my maternal grandfather and grandmother, and their aunt.
In the 1940s - 1950s there was a cluster of Neukermans on the Rattenberg :
-- tante Adèle, widow of Ferdinandus Neukermans (nonkel Jef) and her daughter Clementia Neukermans (Manse - Okegem 1895 - Denderleeuw 1955) ;

Joanna Straetman, born in Okegem on March 9 1697, passed away on May 30 1762. In 1726 she had married Joannes Van der Speeten (Denderhoutem 1702 - Okegem 1761).
They had five children. Petrus Van der Speeten (Okegem 1733 - 1786) was number three. In 1757 he married Joanna De Mol (Okegem 1733 - 1791).
Petrus and Joanna had nine children. Cornelius (1772 - 1806) was number eight. In 1795 he married Alexandrina De Schepper (Okegem 1775 - 1853) with whom he had six children. After his death Alexandrina married Petrus Judocus Neukermans (Okegem 1772 - 1812) of the second Neukermans branch in Okegem. With him she had another 3 children.
Alexandrina Van der Speeten (Okegem 1795 - 1831) was the oldest of the nine children of Alexandrina De Schepper. In 1818 she married Andreas Asselman (Okegem 1795 - 1875). On dat day, Anna Van den Waterloop was born in Okegem, a daughter to Henricus, who died in 1673, and to Joanna De Winne. There had been a Van de Waterloop family and a De Winne family in Okegem since parish registers were kept.
Anna, who died in Okegem in 1770, was the spouse of Joannes Asselman, who was born in Okegem ca 1663 and died there in 1723.
Joannes and Anna had seven children ; I descend from two of them :

On that day, Engelbert Van den Waterloop (Ingel) died in Okegem. He was buried the next day. He married twice but had offspring with his first wife only. He married Maria Vernaillen in 1630. She died in 1658.
They had four children : Henricus Van den Waterloop married Joanna De Winne in 1656. They had five children : Anna Van den Waterloop (Okegem 1662 - 1740) was the third.
She married Joannes Asselman in 1687 and they had seven children.

Henricus Van den Waterloop died in Okegem on November 26 1673 and was buried the next day. He married Joanna De Winne. There was, at that time, a De Winne family in Okegem, but Joanna has not been linked to it (yet ?).

I forgot to mention that Petrus Asselman died on that day in Okegem, where he had been baptised on November 19 1729. He had been alderman (schepen) of Okegem in 1765 - 1768 and in 1770 - 1773 and apparently was poor (he had to borrow money). He had 11 children, four with his first wife and seven with his second wife Maria Francisca De Schepper (Iddergem 1744 - Okegem 1815).
Long-lived Franciscus Asselman (Okegem 1769 - 1865) was a son of Maria Francisca and the father of Andreas (Okegem 1795 - 1875). Andreas had five children, all with his first wife Alexandrina Van der Speeten (Okegem 1795 - 1831).
As mentioned before, their daughter Catharina Asselman (Okegem 1823 - 1892) was the mother of my great-grandfather Hermilianus Neukermans (Okegem 1855 - 1932) whose father Amandus Neukermans passed away very young (Okegem 1824 - 1857).

Anna Asselman was born in Okegem ca 1690. She was a daughter of Joannes Asselman (Okegem ca 1663 - 1723) and Anna Van den Waterloop (Okegem 1662 - 1740). She died in Okegem on October 26 1784 and was buried the next day.
She married Joannes De Mol (Okegem 1699 - 1777). I need go no further because I just mentioned Joannes De Mol in "October 26 1691 (2) " - the previous post.
To the best of my knowledge, the name Van den Waterloop died out completely. I have no knowledge of any person bearing that name in Belgium at the present time. I'd like to stand corrected.
