New Year and ancestry
In my ancestor chart - and up to now - I found two ancestors who were born on New Year's day.
The first one was Petrus Guns, born in Denderhoutem on Jaunuari 1 1595 and who died in Denderhoutem in July 1646. I am the tenth generation after him.
The second is Petrus Joannes Ravijst, the father of my paternal grandmother. He was born in Nieuwenhove on New Year's day in 1861 and died in Meerbeke on January 21 1944, four years and almost two months after my birth. I am sorry to say I have no recollection of him whatsoever and that I heard very few, sometimes slightly contradictary, tales and stories about him.
He lived a couple of houses up the Hemelrijk(straat) from where my father's parents lived. The house has been demolished and replaced by a new construction years ago. It doesn't seem very long ago, but time flies so fast it may have been twenty, thirthy, or even more years ago.
None of my known ancestors died on New Year's day.

Egidius Goossens died in Denderhoutem where he had been born on September 6 1627. He was the first husband of Judoca Van Testel with whom he had five children.
According to my source, Judoca had another eight children with her second husband.
I descend from Joannes Goossens (Denderhoutem 1652 - 1732) who married Maria Guns. She was born in Denderhoutem in 1660.
See various posts, including "July 30 1627" which by the way contains a factual error. Egidius died on July 30 1665, not on July 30 1627 : he was born on September 6 1627.
According to my source, Judoca had another eight children with her second husband.

Franciscus Goossens, one of their sons (Denderhoutem 1733 - 1778) was the second of three husbands of Joanna Catharina De Dier (Denderhoutem 1738 - 1822).

Elisabeth Guns died in Denderhoutem. She had been married to Petrus Lievens, who died there in 1647.

Jacobus Goossens died in Denderhoutem. In 1606 he became the second husband of Maria Callebaut. They had seven kids. The youngest one was Egidius (Denderhoutem 1627 - 1665).
Egidius Goossens married Judoca Van Testel in 1648. Joannes (Denderhoutem 1652 - 1732) was the third of their five children.
In 1687 Joannes married Maria Guns, born in Denderhoutem in 1660. They had five children. The third was another Egidius Goossens (Denderhoutem 1695 - 1762).

Steven Lievens was born in Denderhoutem, a son of Petrus who died in the wame village in 1647 and of Elisabeth Guns, who died there in 1651.
Steven married Petronella Van der Haegen (Denderhoutem 1625 - 1691) in 1643 and must have died before 1652 as his wife remarried in June of that year. To the best of my knowledge, she had two children with her first husband, and two with the second.
Their daughter Elisabeth Lievens was born in Denderhoutem in 1644. She married Joannes Wynant, who died in 1692.
Gisbertus Wynant, one of their children (Denderhoutem 1672 - 1743), married Livina Lievens (Denderhoutem 1675 - 1742). I haven't yet looked at the possible and probable kinship between Livina and the forementioned Lievens.
Their daughter Elisabeth Wynant (Denderhoutem 1698 - 1781) married Egidius Goossens (Denderhoutem1695 - 1762).
Once more we are on familiar grounds : see "November 8 1693".

Cornelia Walckiers died in Denderhoutem. In 1593 she had married Pieter Grijseels (who died in Denderhoutem 1639, less than four months after his wife).
Their daughter Petrina Grijseels was born in Denderhoutem in 1594 and married Petrus Guns (Denderhoutem 1595 - 1646).
Petrus and Petrina had a son, Petrus Guns, born in Denderhoutem in 1623. In 1647 he married Joanna Van Muylem (+ Denderhoutem 1689).
Maria Guns, born in 1660, was one of their children. I just mentioned her two posts ago. See : "February 7 1652".

None of my known ancestors were born on Christmas day. Up to now I have found two who were born on New Year day.
Petrus Guns was born on January 1 1595 in Denderhoutem. He was an ancestor of my mother's maternal grandmother.
Petrus Joannes Ravijst was born in Nieuwenhove on January 1 1861. The joy may have been slightly mitigated as Petrus was a natural child. He was my father's maternal grandfather.

On that date Maria Guns was born in Denderhoutem. In 1687 she married Joannes Goossens (Denderhoutem 1652 - 1732). They had a son Egidius (Denderhoutem 1695 - 1762) who was the great-grandfather of my great-great-grandmother Coleta Vlaminck (Denderhoutem 1813 - 1891). The filiation has been described in a couple of previous blogs including "July 30 1627" and "August 10 1698".
