Uit "Eeuwigdurend Pamels Kalender" van de betreurde Gerard Van Herreweghen :
In het molenaarshuis sterft Maria Mattens, weduwe van Franciscus van Lierde en vrouw van Gerard van Lierde, beiden molenaars. De weduwnaar hertrouwt reeds op 3 sept. met Elisabeth Bavegems, want de molen moet voortdraaien. En als Gerard van Lierde op 6 april 1754 overlijdt, trouwt de molenarin op 11 jan. 1755 met Petrus-Jan de Kerpel. Zo kunnen er op de duur vier-vijf soorten kinderen in één huis wonen."
We weten niet of Franciscus Van Lierde verwant was met Gerardus Martinus Van Lierde. De eerste stierf in Pamel in 1741, de tweede was geboren in Idegem voor 1723 en stierf te Pamel in 1754.
En nu de gecompliceerde gezinssituatie :
-- Franciscus en Maria Mattens, die uit Lennik kwam, hadden twee zonen en twee dochters ;
-- Gerardus Martinus en Maria Mattens hadden een dochter.
-- Gerardus en Elisabeth Baveghems hadden zeven kinderen, waarvan twee zoons. De tweede oudste was Joannes Josephus, geboren in 1746. Hij bleef op de molen en stierf er in 1811 ; hij trouwde met Maria Josina Covens. Beide koppels horen in mijn stamboom.

A follow up
Gerardus Martinus Van Lierde, the second husband of Maria Mattens, thus was a witness to the death of three out of four of his wife's children and then lost Maria and his own daughter in a couple of days (see the previous post).
But things could go fast in those times. Maria died on May 9 1743 and on September 3 1743 Gerardus Martinus married Elisabeth Baveghems "rentenierster" (a woman of independent means, whatever that meant at that time) who was born in Pamel on September 7 1723, a daughter to Joannes (1681 - 1737) and Joanna Maria De Vidts (1683 - 1726).
Elisabeth gave birth to seven children : we know for a fact that three of them died in young age too.
Gerardus Martinus himself died in Pamel on April 6 1754. His youngest daughter Catharina Theresia was born almost two months later on May 25 1754, but she was one of the three who didn't make it : she died, less than a year old, on March 29 1755.
On January 11 1755, months after the death of Gerardus Martinus, Elisabeth married Petrus De Kerpel (ca 1727 - 1792) but, to the best of our knowledge, they had no offspring. Elisabeth died in Pamel on June 29 1807.

Joannes Baveghems was born in Meerbeke on August 7 1681. He was a son of Judocus and Josina Goutswilders and became a blacksmith. We have reported on him in previous posts, the last on July 3 1737, the day he died in Pamel.
In 1711 he married Joanna Maria De Vidts (Pamel 1683 - 1726) in Pamel and they had five children. The pair lived in Meerbeke until after the death of Joanna Maria's parents, when they moved to Pamel.

This was a complicated web of households :
Franciscus Van Lierde who died in Pamel in 1741 had two sons and two daughters with Maria Mattens (born in Lennik, who died in Pamel in 1743) ;

Miller Martinus Gerardus Van Lierde died in Pamel. He had been born in Idegem before 1723 and married twice. He had one child from his very short first marriage and seven from his second marriage to Elisabeth Baveghems (Pamel 1723 - 1807), who, in her turn, remarried after his death.
I descend from their son Joannes Josephus Van Lierde (Pamel 1746 - 1811).

Maria (Maayken) Appelmans (born ca 1590) died on that day. Around 1617 she married Jacobus De Vidts (Pamel ca 1590 - 1679). They had five or six children.
They are not in the direct line of De Vidts leading to my maternal grandmother Maria Antonia De Vidts (Pamel 1885 - 1949).
Their son Petrus (Pamel ca 1618 - 1668) married Josina Van Nieuwenhove (born in Aspelare or in Appelterre - died in Pamel in 1668). I have described bits and pieces of this line before, but I shall repeat it here.

On that day, Maria De Vleminck died in Pamel. She was the spouse of Joannes De Vidts (Pamel 1651 - 1724).

Yes, I know, today is August 13. But I still am a couple of days late as a consequence of a technical problem (see "Panne en sommige regels", written on July 31 2007).
On August 7 1681 Joannes Baveghems was born in Meerbeke. There is no need to write more about him, because I already commemorated his death in "July 3 1737".

On July 3d 1737, Joannes Baveghems died in Pamel, almost 46 years old. He was a blacksmith. He had been born in Meerbeke on August 7 1681 and was married to Joanna Maria De Vidts, born in Pamel on January 3 1683. She preceeded him in death at Pamel on April 13 1726 at the age of 43. The marriage took place at Pamel on Februari 10 1711.
Joanna Maria was a descendant from the second De Vidts line in Pamel (not the one my great-grandfather Felix descended from in a direct line : she descended from Guillelmus, born around 1530 ; Felix descended from Gheeraert, possibly a brother of Guillelmus). She became a "meisenier" in Grimbergen on December 11 1715. By that time, meisenier was an honorary title without much real contents, but still much sought after by the families that could apply for it. The couple first lived in Meerbeke but returned to the Dries in Pamel when Joanna's parents had passed away. Joannes and Joanna Maria had 5 children at least, of which Elisabeth was the youngest.

Family relationship sometimes got quite complicated at that time - widows with children stood almost no chance when they stayed single.
Their third child, Joannes Josephus Van Lierde (Pamel, June 19 1746 - Pamel April 1 1811) was a miller too and became a meisenier on March 22 1784. He married Maria Josina Covens (Pamel October 8 1759 - Pamel April 12 1827) at Pamel on January 26 1782 and they bred 11 or 12 children.
Their second daughter Maria Elisabeth Van Lierde (Pamel February 28 1790 - Pamel April 27 1838) married Joannes Franciscus De Vidts (Pamel June 21 1784 - Pamel January 24 1839) at Pamel in September 1809. Around 1808 - 1809, they built one of the first houses on the Varing , which, one hundred years later became the new center of Pamel. Their house was known as 'te Koddekes" until very recently. It still stands and is among the eldest on the Varing. Joannes was known as an inn keeper, a cabaretier, and, occasionally, as a "rentenier". In this marriage, the two De Vidts lines in Pamel came together, not for the first, and probably not for the last time. They had eight children, two of which went to live in Ninove.
