For years I have been trying to find where the first two Neukermans in Okegem came from. I was (and am) convinced that they were related, but I haven't yet fully clarified that link.
-- Andreas Neukermans (son of Judocus) married Barbara Van de Waterloop in Okegem in 1698.
-- Jacobus Neukermans, son of Petrus, married Maria De Winne in Okegem in 1717. They are my ancestors. Jacobus probably stranded in Okegem during a visit to Andreas and Barbara.
I have been looking a bit more closely at the data of Rik Van Hauwe (http://www.rikvanhauwe.be/) and am now almost satisfied that I have found the origins of Jacobus. I always considered the possibility that he might have been born in Denderwindeke - but up to now I had found no convincing link.
I am not fully certain still, but there is a lot of circumstantial evidence which makes me think that Jacobus Neuckermans was born in Denderwindeke in 1694.
Rik Van Hauwe has copied his birth i.e. baptism on "January 30 1694", but remarks that there must be an error in the records (he adds that it is not the only error in that period) because Nicolaas, an elder brother of Jacobus, was baptised on December 12 1693.
This Jacobus was a son of Petrus Neuckermans from Denderwindeke, who married Anna Vanden Haute. Petrus and Anna had six sons in Denderwindeke.
A Petrus Neuckermans and an Anna Vanden Haute were godparents of some of the children of Joannes Neukermans from Denderwindeke who married Joanna Asselman from Okegem. And Joanna's mother was Anna Van de Waterloop, a sister of Barbara Van de Waterloop who married Andreas Neuckermans.
The circumstantial evidence is mounting ... and keeps mounting when one looks at the godparents of the children of Jacobus and Maria De Winne.

By the way, I descend from two of the children of Joannes Asselman and Anna Van de Waterloop.
In this article I have omitted most of the dates : it is complicated enough as it is !
I am expecting the publication of the second edition of "Families en Personen te Okegem ... " by Dr Herman Van Isterdael. He told me he has found an additional link for the earliest Neukermans in Okegem. I am curious to discover whether my hypothesis is the correct one ...

Van de(n) Waterloop
Amongst my ancestors I have a Van de(n) Waterloop family which lived (mainly) in Okegem and also in Pamel.
To the best of my knowledge, this family name no longer exists in Belgium.
In the genealogical records I have seen, one finds the name in the XVIIth and XVIIIth century, and then it disappears. There cannot have been too many branches in the family. Maybe there were too many girls and too many unmarried sons ?
Still, thousands upon thousands of people may descend from that family, just as I do.
Research on Geneanet indicates that the name was known (almost) exclusively in the immediate surroundings of Okegem and in parts of the Nord - Pas de Calais in Northern France, but there it was mostly Waterloop (without Van de).
I do not have the time to try to find the descendancy of the few family heads with that name, but if anyone, anyone at all, does know more about it, I would be pleased to hear about it on etpatim@yahoo.com.

Laurentius De Leeuw was buried in Okegem. He probably lived most - if not all - of his life in Impegem, now a hamlet of Liederkerke, which was part of the Okegem parish at that time. He was over eigthy years old when he died. He was a son of Guilielmus De Leeuw and Judoca Van den Waterloop and married twice.
In 1669 he married Adriana Van Ginderdeuren and they had three children :
-- Passchasia (Okegem 1669 - 1688) ;
-- Guilelmus, born in Okegem in 1671 and who married twice ;
-- Joanna (born in Okegem in 1674) and who died in 1751, ca 80 years old. She never married.
In 1680 Laurentius married Catharina Reybosch, who died in 1700. They had seven children.
-- Elisabeth, born in 1681 ;
-- another Elisabeth, born in 1682 ;
-- Maria, born in 1686. She lived to be married ;
-- Gaspard, born in 1689, who married in Pamel and sired an extensive family ;
-- Jacoba, born in 1697. Her husband died in 1769 ;
-- Adriana, born in 1700, who died in 1745 "ca sixty years old" ??. She was buried a pauper ( by the "armentafel"). Adriana and her half-sister Joanna, continued to live together in the family home in the Kouterbaan, at least for some time. In 1736 - 1745 they were supported by the "armentafel". We also know that Adriana's house was repaired by the poor in 1741 - 1742. In those same years she received clothing from the poor. There is no mention of Joanna then. It is slightly ironic that their father had been an administrator of the "poor's table".
-- Catharina, who died in Okegem in 1757, and who married Egidius Vernaillen in Iddergem in 1716. Egidius died in Okegem in 1759. They are among my ancestors.

They had nine children : Guillelmus (ca 1610 - 1677) married Judoca Van de Waterloop in Okegem in 1639.
They had three children : Laurentius De Leeuw (Impegem ca 1644 - 1728) was an ancestor of mine.

On dat day, Anna Van den Waterloop was born in Okegem, a daughter to Henricus, who died in 1673, and to Joanna De Winne. There had been a Van de Waterloop family and a De Winne family in Okegem since parish registers were kept.
Anna, who died in Okegem in 1770, was the spouse of Joannes Asselman, who was born in Okegem ca 1663 and died there in 1723.
Joannes and Anna had seven children ; I descend from two of them :
-- Anna Asselman (Okegem ca 1690 - 1784) who married Joannes De Mol (Okegem 1699 - 1777)
and
-- Joannes Asselman (Okegem 1692 - 1732).

Maria Vernaillen died in Okegem. She was the first spouse of Engelbert Van den Waterloop who died in Okegem in 1670.

On that day, Engelbert Van den Waterloop (Ingel) died in Okegem. He was buried the next day. He married twice but had offspring with his first wife only. He married Maria Vernaillen in 1630. She died in 1658.
They had four children : Henricus Van den Waterloop married Joanna De Winne in 1656. They had five children : Anna Van den Waterloop (Okegem 1662 - 1740) was the third.
She married Joannes Asselman in 1687 and they had seven children.

On that day, Judoca Schoenmaeckers died in Okegem, where she was buried the next day. She married Gijsbrecht Vernaillen, who died in 1637.
I descend from three of their five children.

She married Joannes De Mol (Okegem 1699 - 1777). I need go no further because I just mentioned Joannes De Mol in "October 26 1691 (2) " - the previous post.

Joanna Muylaerts died in Okegem on that date. Her son Engelbert Van den Waterloop in his turn died in Okegem in 1670. The third generation was Henricus Van den Waterloop who died in 1673.

That still happens to the present day. For how many generations can an average citizen quote the family names of his ancestors ? Three, four generations at the most ... Before I started researching my family, I barely could name all my great-grandparents.
And who knows all the descendants of his great-grandparents ? Virtually no one.
As stated before I research all my ascendants in the male and the female lines and their direct family (brothers and sisters), in Flemish my "kwartierstaat". I am not interested in the "total descendence"or "parenteel", that is the full list op people descending from any one of my ancestors. And even if I were interested, privacy laws applying to the last 100 years make such a job almost impossible.

On July 5th 1635 Judocus De Winne died at Okegem. He was married to Passchasia Schets. Both were “buitenpoorters” of Geraardsbergen (Grammont). They had eight children and I descend from their son Petrus who died at Okegem on June 20 1640. These are important people in my genealogy : I descend from them in a number of ways.
Petrus De Winne married twice. He had eleven children, nine of which issued from his second marriage to Anna sConinckx who was probably born at Iddergem and died at Okegem on May 12 1646. I descend from two of their sons : Adrianus and Petrus (+ 1660).
I give the bare outlines :
1. Adrianus De Winne begot Joanna who became the mother of Anna Van den Waterloop (1662 – 1740).

I’m not sure the list is complete – it is an illustration of the intertwining of families in small villages in the 17th – 18th century and really needs a genealogical graph to be well presented, although I’m not quite sure that even a graph would be perfectly legible.
But I am totally sure about the fact that I could never have gotten this far with my research without the exceptional work of Dr Herman Van Isterdael “Families en Personen te Okegem (Ninove) 12e eeuw – 1900 en Impegem (Liedekerke) 17e eeuw – 1804” published by the VVF Aalst in 2003.

Jacobus and Andreas probably were related ; their spouses may have been related too (through the De Winne family).
