I wrote before that I descend from Joannes Timmermans (Gooik 1686 - Meerbeke 1769) and his wife Maria Anna De Vleeschauwer (Meerbeke 1683 - 1761) through their son Nicolaas (Meerbeke 1711 - 1808) and his first wife Petronella Van Eesbeeck (Eesbeke) who was born in Meerbeke in 1706 and died there in 1772.
Nicolaas had approximately 12 children with his two wifes - I haven't finalised my count yet because my research remains incomplete ; Philippus was born in Meerbeke in 1740.
I also descend from a Barbara Timmermans, spouse of Christianus Vanden Berghe. I was not sure where to link that Barbara, if at all. It now appears more than likely that this Barbara was the younger daughter of Joannes because according to the Status Animarum they lived under the same roof. That daughter was born in 1726.
Barbara's daughter Petronella Vanden Berghe (Meerbeke 1766 - 1824) became the second wife of Philippus Timmermans - they were cousins ("cousings germains"). If this probable hypothesis is correct I descend twice from Joannes and Maria Anna, and one more open link in my ancestry will be closed.

Meerbeke 1757 : Timmermans
The publication of the Status Animarum gives us the opportunity to list all the Timmermans who were living in Meerbeke in 1757.
Plaets : Philippus Timmermans x Petronilla Jans and children : Petrus 8 years ; Joannes 7 years ; Catharina 4 years ; Maria Anna 2 years ; Joanna 6 months. This Philippus may have been a son of Joannes, mentioned under Poelck.
De Godtshuysen : Maria Hetvelt vidua N. Stevens (m.i. Francis) and het daughter Isabella. Judocus Timmermans lives in the same house.
Valleystraete : Petrus De Schepper x Petronella Timmermans and his sister Anna De Schepper. Children : Adrianus ; Joanna 13 years ; Adriana 10 years ; Maria Anna 7 years ; Cornelius 2 years.

I now have the very agreeable job to puzzle out the relationships between these various families. As I wrote before, my own research on Meerbeke is very incomplete for the 19th and most certainly for the 18th centuries. I haven't yet reconstructed the whole families (parents + all children) of my direct ancestors.

Petronella Van den Berghe died in Meerbeke where she had been born on March 26 1766. Apparently I forgot to post that birth.
She was the second spouse of Philippus Timmermans (Meerbeke 1740 - 1814). Philippus had five children at least with his first wife Catharina De Cooman (ca 1751 - Meerbeke 1791) and four at least (I haven't finished the family reconstructions) with Petronella.

Philippus Timmermans, born in Meerbeke on November 13 1740, died there on that day in 1814. He was married twice : his first spouse was Catharina De Cooman (ca 1751 - Meerbeke 1791) ; the second one was Petronella Van den Berghe (Meerbeke 1766 - 1824).
According to the present state of my research, he had nine children, four of them with Petronella. The youngest of these nine children was Charles Timmermans (Meerbeke 1812 - 1883), my great-great-grandfather.

July 25 1694
On July 25 1694 Judocus Timmermans passed away at Gooik. He had been baptized at Gooik on September 21 1649 and married Catharina (Maria) Appelmans (Gooik 1656 - 1733), who remarried after his death.
They had two children : Cornelius lived for less than a month in november 1679 and Joannes who was born at Gooik in 1686 died at Meerbeke in 1769. He married Maria Anna De Vleeschauwer (Meerbeke 1683 - 1761).
Their son Nicolaes Timmermans - who married twice - lived for almost one hundred years in Meerbeke - from 1711 to 1808. Both father and son had a lot of children. One of them was Philippus (Meerbeke 1740 - 1814). He was a son of Nicolaes and of his first wife Petronella Van Eesbeke (Meerbeke 1706 - 1772). Philippus also married twice and his second wife was Petronella Van den Berghe (Meerbeke 1766 - 1824).
According to my research, this Philippus was the father of Charles Timmermans, who was born at Meerbeke in 1812, when his father was 71 and his mother 46. That is the reason why, a couple of almost ironclad checks notwithstanding, I still hesitate to claim for certain that this Philippus is the real father of Charles.
There are three possibilities : either the data are correct and Philippus is the real father ; or the data are correct and Philippus is the legal, but not the real father ; or an - improbable - mistake slipped in my research and the father of Charles is another Philippus Timmermans altogether.
In genealogy nothing ever is absolutely certain, but to be "as certain" as possible, I will have to reconstitute all the Timmermans families in Meerbeke in the 18th en 19th century - and there are lots of them. This will require very significant additional research but will pay off eventually as I will get a reliable overview of the exact relationships (or lack of it) between all the people bearing the same family name.
Charles who died at Meerbeke in 1883 was married twice too. He and his second wife Maria Anna Van den Houte (who was born in Lieferinge in 1825) were the parents of my great-grandfather Jozef Timmermans (Meerbeke 1858 - 1929).
