Cornelius Sterckx, a relatively well to do farmer - he had two maids - died in Kriebrug, Pamel, on July 18 1719. He was a son of Joannes Sterckx and Maria Cobbaert, who died in 1679.
In 1694 he married one of his maids, Elisabeth Van der Beeren, with whom he had two children :
- NN, a female deathborn, which was baptised at home in 1696 ;
- Joannes (Pamel 1698 - 1701).
Elisabeth died in 1708, and, slightly more than six months after her death, Cornelius remarried Maria Huylenbroeck (Pamel 1681 - 1713), a short marriage again. They had one child :
- Jan Baptist Sterckx (Pamel 1713, who lived for about ten days.
This time, Cornelius remarried after four months, in the year in which he lost his second wife and his third child. His third wife was Catharina Van Cauwelaert (until now I used the form Van Caulaert for her, but it is the same name).
They had four children :
- Nicolaes (Pamel 1714 - 1803) who married Catharina Susanna Van Tricht (Pamel 1725 - 1799) ; they are my ancestors.
- Maria (Pamel 1716 - 1778) who married twice.
- Elisabeth (Pamel 1717 - 1779) who married in Pamel.
- Barbara Magdalena (Pamel 1719 - 1763) who was mentally handicapped.
Now it was Cornelius's time to go. Catharina Van Cauwelaert married again, less than a year after his death, and had another four daughters with her second husband. She died in Pamel in 1751.

July 4 1857
My great-great-grandfather Amandus Neukermans, a millers helper, died in Okegem, Rattenbergstraat. He was born in Okegem on March 15 1824 and thus was barely 37 years old when he passed away. Whether he died by illness or by accident, I haven't researched (yet).
On September 6 1849 he married Catharina Asselman (Okegem 1823 - 1893). Both of the spouses could write their name, which was not too common at that time. Catharina never remarried.
They had five children :
-- Maria Elisabeth Neukermans (Okegem 1849 - 1892). She was "landbouwster" (at that moment in time most people were) and married Karel Lodewijk Cobbaert (Okegem 1851 - 1898), a carpenter ;
-- Rosalia Neukermans (Okegem 1851 - 1922). She was a glove maker - a common female occupation in Okegem in the 19th and early 20th century (my mother's mother and my mother also were glove makers). She married Adrianus Cobbaert (Okegem 1845 - 1918), a carpenter and brother of Karel Lodewijk ;
-- Clara Cecilia Neukermans (Okegem 1853 - 1854). She died one day before her first birthday ;
-- Hermilianus Neukermans (Okegem 1855 - 1832), farmer and "kloefkapper" (he made wooden shoes), who married Clementia Broeckaert (Okegem 1858 - 1939), a glove maker. They were my great-grandparents ;
-- (Jozef ?) Ferdinandus Neukermans (Okegem 1858 - 1939), farmer. Like his brother he lived on the Rattenberg - they probably split the property of their parents (to be verified). Ferdinandus married Odila Maria Broeckaert (Okegem 1862 - 1945), who also was a glove maker, and a sister of Clementia.
Ferdinandus was born some months after his father's death, and even his slightly older brother, my great-grandfather, could not possibly have had any direct memories about his father.

Of all the people mentioned by name in this post "tante Adèle" is the only one I have known personally. She was a direct neigbour of my maternal grandfather and grandmother, and their aunt.
In the 1940s - 1950s there was a cluster of Neukermans on the Rattenberg :
-- tante Adèle, widow of Ferdinandus Neukermans (nonkel Jef) and her daughter Clementia Neukermans (Manse - Okegem 1895 - Denderleeuw 1955) ;
-- the family of my grandparents Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (Okegem 1886 - Aalst 1961) and Maria Antonia De Vidts (Pamel 1885 - Okegem 1949) ;
-- and my grandfather's brother Joannes Amadeus (nonkel Wentj - Okegem 1895 - 1976) with his family.
I think some of the Cobbaert offspring also lived in the immediate vicinity, but I do not remember meeting them.

Maria Cobbaert died in Pamel where she had married Joannes Sterckx in 1644.

Adrianus was a son of Judocus (Pamel 1627 - 1678) and Gerarda Lambeens, born in Burst in 1629, whom we just met in the post "May 6 1639". Elisabeth and Adrianus had 10 children.
Carolus (Pamel 1696 - 1775) was number eight. In 1723 he married Josina (also Susanna) Van Londerzele (ca 1694 - Pamel 1772) in Liedekerke. They had eight children.
Catharina Suzanna Van Tricht was the eldest (Pamel 1725 - 1799). She married Nicolaes Sterckx (Pamel 1714 - 1803). Nicolaes Sterckx was a nephew of Elisabeth Sterckx forementioned. His father Cornelius, who died in Pamel in 1719, was a brother of Elisabeth. But Nicolaes never knew Elisabeth : she died in the year in which he was born.
Catharina Suzanna and Nicolaes had eight children too. Elisabeth Sterck (Pamel 1754 - Okegem 1799) was the eldest.
In 1778, she married Joannes, called Josephus Neukermans (Okegem 1736 - 1814), with whom she had ten children. Adrianus Neukermans (Okegem 1788 - 1860) , my great-great-grandfather, was number five.

March 30 1638
On that day, Maria Van Muylem was born in Denderhoutem, a daughter to Egidius (who died in Denderhoutem in 1650) and to Clara Cobbaert (who died there in 1647).
In 1663 Maria married Egidius Meganck, who died in Denderhoutem in 1690 (I do not know where Egidius was born). As reported before they had six children. In 1692 Maria remarried a man with the nice name of David Mylief (my love, or a May love ...) and she passed away on December 22 1708.

As I wrote before, it is not impossible that this line of Meganck's was related to the line in Aspelare - Nederhasselt from which I also descend. That is a question I haven't yet looked into.

Maria Van Muylem (Denderhoutem 1638 - 1708) was the seventh of their eight children. Maria herself had six children : Maria Meganck (Denderhoutem 1666 - 1734) was the fourth.
Maria Meganck had ten children : David De Dier (Denderhoutem 1693 - 1777) was the sixth.
He was the father of Joanna Catharina De Dier (Denderhoutem 1738 - 1822) who married three times. She had eight children (with only one of her husbands) and I descend from her daughter Maria Anna Goossens (Denderhoutem 1774 - 1852).
