Margaretha Boschmans (Margriete) died in Okegem. Ca 1600, when she was a widow, she became a "buitenpoorter" of Geraardsbergen.
In 1602 she married her second husband Joannes Cammaerts, born ca 1580. Joannes himself remarried after Margaretha's death.
They had a daughter, Margaretha Cammaerts, who was born in 1604 in Okegem. In 1627 she married Adrianus Van de Perre, born in Haaltert, who died in Okegem in 1642.

Some weeks before the start of the first world war Joanna Catharina Van de Perre died in Okegem, where she had been born in 1838.
She married Karel Bernardus Broeckaert (Wetteren 1832 - Okegem 1928) and they had twelve children. The couple is represented in the photo in the left column of this blog.
The eldest, Clementina Broeckaert (Okegem 1858 - 1939) was the mother of my maternal grandfather, Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (Okegem 1886 - Aalst 1961).
She married Karel Bernardus Broeckaert (Wetteren 1832 - Okegem 1928) and they had twelve children. The couple is represented in the photo in the left column of this blog.
The eldest, Clementina Broeckaert (Okegem 1858 - 1939) was the mother of my maternal grandfather, Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (Okegem 1886 - Aalst 1961).

Adrianus Van de Perre died in Okegem. His widow Christina Gansemans survived him for 22 years but fell on very hard times. We know that she had to be supported by the "armentafel" in 1712-1713.

Joanna Maria Wellekens was born in Okegem, a daughter to Carolus Joannes and Petronella Verhoeven.
In 1801 Joanna Maria became the second wife of Jacobus Antonius Van de Perre (Okegem 1740 - 1812) with whom she had four children. Jacobus had an additional 11 children with his first wife.
Joannes Van de Perre (Okegem 1801 - 1875) was the eldest of the four. He married Maria Borremans (Strijtem ca 1798 - Okegem 1866).

The fifth was Joanna Catharina Van de Perre (Okegem 1838 - 1914), who was a great-grandmother of my mother Margaretha Neukermans (Okegem 1914 - Gent 2000). Joanna Catharina died about two weeks after my mother was born.

Petrus De Schepper was born in Okegem on September 5 1736. He was a son of Michael De Schepper (Iddergem 1702 - Okegem 1754) and Anna Van de Maele (ca 1701 - Okegem 1741).
In 1768 he married Catharina Van de Perre (Okegem 1735 - 1812).
Alexandrina (Okegem 1775 - 1853) wa the last of their four children and the only one who reached adulthood.

The De Schepper family intervenes at various points in my genealogy. It is possible, and even probable (although not yet researched or proven) that the various branches are inter-related.

Karel Bernardus Broeckaert, a railroad worker, died in Okegem, where he was buried on January 12. He was born in Wetteren on January 18 1832 and lived for almost 96 years.In 1858, he married Joanna Catharina Van de Perre (Okegem 1838 - 1914).
They had 12 children, of which Clementina Broeckaert (Okegem 1859 - 1939) was the eldest.
Clementina was the mother of my maternal grandfather Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (Okegem 1886 - Aalst 1961).
The picture of the elderly couple in the left column of my blog represents Karel and his wife. It is one of the oldest family pictures I possess.
My mother has known her great-grandfather for almost 14 years - a not very common occurrence I think.

In 1768 she married Petrus De Schepper, born in Okegem on September 5 1736 and who died there on January 24 1805. They had four children, two of which died very young.
Their youngest child was Alexandrina De Schepper (Okegem 1775 - 1853), the mother of Alexandrina Van der Speeten (Okegem 1795 -1831). Alexandrina Van der Speeten was the mother of Catharina Asselman (Okegem 1823 - 1892), the mother of my great-grandfather Hermilianus Neukermans (Okegem 1855 - 1932) - see "De kloefkapper" and various previous posts.

On that day, Judoca Van Poucke died in Serskamp. She had been born in Schellebelle on April 3 1797 and married Eugenius Broeckaert (Serskamp 1792 - 1846).
Their son Karel Bernardus Broeckaert (Wetteren 1832 - Okegem 1928) was a railroad worker and married Joanna Catharina Van de Perre (Okegem 1838 - 1914) on June 14 1858. So Karel moved a - for that time - considerable distance from the place of his birth. The couple had twelve children, and their photo is in the left hand column of this blog under genealogy.
