Joannes Franciscus De Vidts was born in Pamel, the second of eight children of Petrus Joannes (Pamel 1749 - 1793) and Carolina Van der Straeten (Ternat ca 1753 - Pamel 1801).

He married Maria Elisabeth Van Lierde (Pamel 1790 -1838).
