Polls

You all know what I think about polls, but this is a regular one which is taken very seriously in political circles.

Zie : http://www.nieuwsblad.be/Article/Detail.aspx?articleID=DMF27062008_093.

According to this recent poll of Flemish voters, our prime minister - finally - is taking a serious beating. That's the "good" news - although after analysis of the possible consequences it's not good at all.

The bad news is that a bright former sport trainer and manager, who has created his own party because he was not welcome elsewhere, is cleaning up the field with simplistic positions and opinions, based on the so called common sense of the population. In as far as I can judge, the guy firmly believes in what he is trying to sell to the voters. Bright but not very .... , right ?

This is not good news for the future of the country, be it Belgium or "Flanders". I see further gridlock all over the place and fratricide at the top of the prime minister's party. The knives are being sharpened already, and fratricide has always been a big thing in that party.

A very personal remark : the popularity of the 30 top - a word used very loosely here - Flemish politicians is part of the poll. Suffice it to say that among those thirty persons there are only two whom I might eventually trust with the management of the country. And both are losing influence in their own party. I am very willing to believe that the majority of the others in the list are well intentioned (but then the road to hell and so on ...) but they leave me indifferent at best, or give me the shivers at worst.

And those are the guys and girls who would do everything better in an independent Flanders ?

Horse manure !!!
