Walloons

Shortly after a poll showing that Flemings lose faith in Belgium, another poll shows that more and more Walloons choose for a unitarian Belgium.

The commentary of the paper is spiteful : the Walloons are scared to stand on their own feet and to lose the financial crutch supplied by Flanders :

"Terwijl Vlaanderen in het bijzonder voor de ontwikkeling van zijn slagkracht op de arbeidsmarkt snakt naar meer bevoegdheden, klampt Wallonië zich bijna wanhopig vast aan België. Het federale niveau wordt in het zuiden van het land meer dan ooit gezien als een levensverzekering. Het vertrouwen van Wallonië in zichzelf én dus ook in zijn eigen politieke leiders bereikt daarmee een absoluut dieptepunt. De verlatingsangst is nog nooit zo groot geweest. Bijna vertwijfeld kijken drie op de tien Walen naar Parijs als een mogelijke nieuwe levenslijn."

The more I read, the more certain I am that this country is going to implode. I see nothing but ill will on both sides of the fence. And the population "at large" , which may think otherwise, does not decide. The politicians do, or rather they do not, they let the situation rot until the country falls apart. I hope there is a hell for politicians !
