See the post "July 10 1697" which I wrote last year. Catharina Gansemans died in Pamel of dysenteria. She had four children with her first husband, Cornelius Van Nieuwenhove, who died in Pamel in 1676, and one with her second husband, who survived her for many years.
In the "Gezinsreconstructie gemeente Pamel 1622 - 1799" there are four Gansemans households and three Van Nieuwenhove households, which may indicate that the roots of these families are to be found elsewhere. Van Nieuwenhove was not an unusual name in some of the neighbouring villages. In a more recent past - after the French revolution - there were more Gansemans households but no more Van Nieuwenhove households in Pamel.
The children of Cornelius and Catharina were :
-- Joannes, who died (young) in 1669 in Pamel ;
-- Maria, born in Pamel in 1660 ;
-- Catharina, my ancestor, born in Pamel in 1663, who married Petrus De Vidts (Pamel 1655 - 1726) in 1694. She died in 1743 in Pamel Kwinkeleer ;
-- Joanna, born in Pamel in 1666.
Three girls and one boy who died young. End of that line of Van Nieuwenhove's in Pamel.

Cornelius Van Nieuwenhove died in Pamel. He was the first spouse of Catharina Gansemans, who died in Pamel in 1697.
They had four children. I descend from their daughter Catharina (Pamel 1663 - 1743) who married Petrus De Vidts (Pamel 1663 - 1743).
We met them a couple of posts ago. See "April 20 1627".

Judocus De Vidts was born in Pamel, where he died on July 5 1694. He was the second of probably seven children of Paschasius De Vidts (Pamel ca 1595 - 1656) and Joanna De Beer (ca 1598 - Pamel 1673). He became a meisenier in 1669 and lived on the Kwinkeleer.
Judocus married Maria Van der Kelen in 1650, and they had 10 children, of whom about one in three died young. Petrus De Vidts (Pamel 1655 - 1726) was number four and a meisenier like his father. He was an alderman (schepen) of Pamel.
Petrus married twice and had three children with his first spouse (twice a widow) and three with his second wife Catharina Van Nieuwenhove (Pamel 1663 - 1743).
His youngest child was Judocus (Pamel 1703 - 1750) who was the first husband of Catharina Theresia Van Cauwelaert "pachteres" (Pamel 1729 - 1805). They had two children, but Catharina had another thirteen kids with her second husband, Joannes Josephus Kestens (Pamel 1719 - 1778). Judocus too was a meisenier.
The further line has been described a couple of times before. Joannes De Vidts (Pamel 1811 - 1881), my great-great-grandfather on my moher's side and my great-great-great-grandfather on my father's side was the great-great-grandson of that Judocus.
See "March 22 1743 " etc ...

Question marks
They are an integral part of genealogy, and part of its charm.
Up to now, my work has centered on copying mostly secundary data into my (provisional) model. Speed sometimes was more important than accuracy, and that is a terrible confession for a genealogist to make ! Fortunately, reporting in this blog forces me time and again to look at my data with a severe critical frown on my face (ahum).
Today I started to write a post on the death of a seventeenth century ancestor Petrus De Vidts, born in Pamel ca 1618. But I stopped in full stride. I first looked at the date of death according to my model : apparently I had typed in April 5 1668. That's why he came up for reporting today. For an number of reasons (or rather indications) that didn't seem to fit.
So I started looking and found two other sources in my notes : one stating October 6 1687 as the date of death ; the other one giving the same date with a question mark. According to my model, my ancestor had eleven children with one wife, called sometimes Josina Van Nieuwenhove and sometimes Josina Van Oudenhove, but according to another (generally very reliable) source, he married three times.
Maybe there has been a confusion between different Petrus De Vidts. I don't think that is likely, but - given de number of Petrus De Vidts who walked the Pamel dirt over the centuries - not entirely impossible.
Fortunately the "Gezinsreconstructies voor Pamel" for the period before the French revolution are due to be published very soon. I can't wait to check my data against that source !

Joannes De Vidts was born in Pamel, the fifth of nine children of Petrus De Vidts (Pamel ca 1618 - 1668) and Josina Van Nieuwenhove (born in Aspelare or Appelterre, deceased in Pamel in 1668).
Joannes married Maria De Vleminck, who died in Pamel in 1716. They had four children at least. The line has been described in post "February 12 1658".

Maria (Maayken) Appelmans (born ca 1590) died on that day. Around 1617 she married Jacobus De Vidts (Pamel ca 1590 - 1679). They had five or six children.
They are not in the direct line of De Vidts leading to my maternal grandmother Maria Antonia De Vidts (Pamel 1885 - 1949).
Their son Petrus (Pamel ca 1618 - 1668) married Josina Van Nieuwenhove (born in Aspelare or in Appelterre - died in Pamel in 1668). I have described bits and pieces of this line before, but I shall repeat it here.
Petrus De Vidts and Josina had a son Joannes (Pamel 1651 - 1724) who married Maria De Vleminck, who died in Pamel in 1716.
Joannes and Maria had a daughter Joanna Maria De Vidts (Pamel 1683 - 1726) who married Joannes Baveghems (Pamel 1681 - 1737).
Joanna Maria and Joannes had a daughter Elisabeth Baveghems (Pamel 1723 - 1807) and her first husband was Martinus Gerardus Van Lierde, born in Idegem before 1723 and who died in Pamel in 1754.
Their son Joannes Josephus Van Lierde (Pamel 1746 - 1811) married Maria Josina Covens (Pamel 1759 - 1827). They had a daughter Maria Elisabeth Van Lierde (Pamel 1790 - 1838) who married Joannes Franciscus De Vidts (Pamel 1784 - 1835). Now we rejoin the direct De Vidts line to my grandmother on my mother's side.
Their son Joannes De Vidts (Pamel 1811 - 1881) married Maria Elisabeth Van der Sleyen (Pamel 1811 - 1860).
Through their daughter Antonia, born in Pamel in 1840, they were ancestors of my father's mother (Antonia was one of my great-grandmothers) ; their son Felix (Pamel 1853 - 1940) was one of my maternal great-grandfathers. The links through Antonia and Felix have been described a couple of times before.

December 21 1726
Petrus De Vidts died in Pamel where he had been born almost exactly 71 years before, on December 23 1655. He has been an alderman and became a meisenier in 1700. He married Catharina Van Nieuwenhove (Aspelare or Pamel 1663 - Pamel 1743). In some sources her family name is given as Van Oudenhove.
Their son Judocus De Vidts lived in Pamel from 1703 to 1750.
Further info : see "November 29 1805" and "November 24 1741".

On that day, Catharina Van Nieuwenhove was born in Pamel or in Aspelare (I have two secundary sources and I haven't checked them yet). She married Petrus De Vidts (Pamel 1655 - 1726) who became a "meisenier" in 1700 and was an alderman in Pamel. Catharina died in Pamel on March 22 1743.
Theis son Judocus De Vidts (Pamel 1703 - 1750) - meisenier in 1715 - was the father of Petrus Joannes (Pamel 1749 - 1793). And I am repeating myself already - see the article "August 1 1635".

July 10 1697
On July 10 1697 Catharina Gansemans died at Pamel. She married twice. From het first husband she had Catharina Van Nieuwenhove (Pamel 1663 - Pamel 1743). The whole following line lived in Pamel.
Catharina Van Nieuwenhove married Petrus De Vidts (1655 - 1726), who had a son Judocus (1703 - 1750), who begot Petrus Joannes (1749 - 1793). Then came Joannes Franciscus (1784 - 1839) who was the father of Joannes (1811 - 1881), the father of my great-grandfather Felix De Vidts.
This line was already mentioned under "July 5 1694".

July 5 1694
On July 5th 1694 Joos De Vidts died at Pamel. He was born at Pamel on April 20 1627 and had ten children with Maria Van der Kelen (Pamel February 15 1625 - Pamel October 7 1676). At this point in time, we know his forebears up to his great-grandfather, and then the family fades into the mists of history.
Joos became a meisenier in Grimbergen on April 8 1669 - a copy of the letter confirming this has survived until now, although there is some confusion about the precise date. He was a well to do tenant farmer (pachter) working about 23 dagwand, which is roughly 6 hectares - and he even had a maid. But at least one third of his children died young.
Just one line in history :
* Petrus (1655 - 1726) son of Joos and Maria, married Catharina Van Nieuwenhove (1663 - 1743) ;
* Judocus (1703 - 1750) son of Petrus and Catharina, married Catharina Theresia Van Cauwelaert (1729 - 1805) ;
* Petrus Joannes (1749 - 1793) son of Joos and Catharina, married Carolina Van der Straeten (ca 1753 - 1801) ;
* Joannes Franciscus (1784 - 1839) son of Petrus and Carolina, married Maria Elisabeth Van Lierde (1790 - 1838) ;
* Joannes (1811 - 1881) son of Joannes Franciscus married Maria Elisabeth Van der Sleyen (1811 -1860) ;
* Felix (1853 - 1940) son of Joannes and Maria Elisabeth married Blondina Muylaert (1849 - 1942) ;
* Maria Antonia (1885 - 1949) daughter of Felix and Blondina, married Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (1886 - 1961) and went to live in Okegem.
* My mother Margaretha Felicitas Neukermans (1914 - 2000) was their daughter.
A second line, restarting with Joannes and Maria Elisabeth Van der Sleyen :
* Antonia (1840 - ?) daughter of Joannes and Maria Elisabeth, married Ludovicus De Schepper (1833 - ?) from Meerbeke ;
* Joanna Maria De Schepper (1864 - 1926) daughter of Antonia and Louis, married Petrus Joannes Ravijst (1861 -1944) from Nieuwenhove ;
* Rosalia Maria (1892 - 1973) daughter of Petrus Joannes and Joanna Maria (also Leontine), married Pieter Jozef Timmermans (1886 - 1953) from Meerbeke.
* My father Petrus Joannes Timmermans (1913 - 1980) was their son.
