Almost Summer

It's Saturday June 14, some minutes after noon. It is half dark, cold and rainy, but not windy (for the moment). It looks and feels like autumn, as so many recent spring days did. It feels like November, not June, but with the trees in leaf and bushes in bloom.

My central heating is doing overtime and I had to switch on the lights to see the touches on my keyboard.

I just deserted "Trooping the Colour"on TV. London at least has dry weather for one of its annual highlight parades. The same show, over and over again, year after year. Damn the Afghan and the Iraqi wars - or are they policing operations ? The British will be British, honouring their sacred traditions, their colours and their queen. And right they are - jolly good show !

Summer is near, but we are almost freezing ; in a couple of weeks temperature may hover about 35 ° Celsius and we may be melting away. That's what we call a temperate climate over here.

Well done, British soldiers, and God save your Queen, anyway ! By the way, his royal highness Charles - somewhat of a contrarian himself- still looking forward to the job of his life when most people are retired, has my full sympathy too. Britain (or should I write England ?) is truly unique.

Just like our Belgian summers.
