A victim of war

Bernardus Karolus Neukermans was born in Okegem on February 16 1883, the eldest child and son of Hermilianus Neukermans and Clementia Broeckaert.

He was a soldier in the so-called "great war" and a late victim of its butchery. He died a a painful death in Okegem on August 13 1921, a late victim to chemical warfare. He was the eldest brother of my maternal grandfather Joannes Franciscus Neukermans (Okegem 1886 - 1961).
.
Another brother Joannes (Wentj) Amadeus Neukermans became a war volunteer and lived to almost 81 - he was born on the very last day of 1895 and died October 31 1976.
