Respect

I read in my paper that a flemish politician - not exactly my favorite one, as if I had any favorite politicians - "demands" (eist) respect.

All people deserve respect - we all are humans after all (observe the s in humans). Whether their individual or collective opinions deserve respect is another matter altogether.

And my experience tells me that people really worthy of respect generally get it without asking for it.

How true.

A great man once said "peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding".

Same goes for respect, does it not?
