Turkse blues in Gentse straten

De laatste tijd zijn gewapende Turken prominent aanwezig in het Gentse stadsbeeld. Incidenten volgen mekaar op in een behoorlijk snel tempo.

De Standaard wijdt een interessant en uitgebreid artikel aan die problematiek, natuurlijk met de nodige politiek correcte overtonen. Het is inderdaad eieren lopen om over dit soort zaken te berichten zonder als een conservatieve racist bestempeld te worden. Toch moeten we "dringend een paar taboes bespreekbaar maken".

De hamvraag in het artikel is : "Wat loopt er mis onder de schijnbaar zo goed geïntegreerde Gentse Turken ?" Goed geïntegreerd ? Waarin dan ? Mijns inziens zijn die mensen helemaal niet geïntegreerd maar leven ze in ghettos. Dat wordt iets later in hetzelfde artikel terloops bevestigd met : "De Turkse gemeenschap is heel gesloten".

Het kan niet dat sommige leden van een belangrijke bevolkingsgroep zich blijven afzonderen en blijven leven volgens de uit het moederland meegebrachte archaïsche leefpatronen, met totale minachting voor de wetten en gebruiken van het gastland.

Over de recente problemen weet een politieman : "Vroeger vocht men ruzies met de vuisten uit, vandaag trekt men messen of pistolen. Dat is een heel gevaarlijke evolutie, die we evengoed bij autochtonen als bij allochtonen vaststellen. Blijkbaar raken mensen vandaag heel gemakkelijk aan een wapen."

Een paar opmerkingen : kan men voor de autochtone bevolking een even beroerde reeks feiten uittekenen als men het in dit artikel voor een aantal ontwortelde elementen van de Turkse bevolkingsgroep gedaan heeft ? Persoonlijk twijfel ik daar sterk aan, zeker wanneer het aantal feiten gecorreleerd zou worden aan het respectieve aandeel van de beide groepen in de totale bevolking.

Zolang de allochtone bevolkingsgroepen zich niet meer, en gemeend, gaan integreren in het Gentse stadsweefsel, en zolang zij niet evenveel respect opbrengen voor onze levenswijze als wij voor de hunne, zal het probleem alleen maar erger worden. Alle andere opinies zijn wishful thinking.

Zonder wederzijds respect en goed begrepen verdraagzaamheid is chaos de enige uitkomst.

En dat mensen heel gemakkelijk aan een wapen raken ? Tja, hoe meer "nep"wetten men zal maken, hoe minder effect ze zullen hebben ...

Rechtvaardigheid

Er is dus toch nog rechtvaardigheid in deze wereld, want geef toe : deze diefstal is duizenden malen erger dan de miljarden euros die verdwenen zijn door het mismanagement en de hebzucht van onze alom geliefde banksters.

I never liked the guy or his "art" anyway, so at first I thought that the world famous selfkicker had lost it completely ; but then I realised that directors, actors, politicians and politicians' wives are in the same business alltogether ... panem et circenses.

An old one ...

Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in California when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him.

The driver, in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and expensive tie, leans out the window and asks Bud, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"

Bud looks at the man, obviously a well-to-do city slicker, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, why not?"

The man parks his car, whips out his laptop computer, connects it to his cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The city slicker then opens the digital photo and exports it to an image processing facility.

Within seconds, he receives an email on his phone that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a database through a connected spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few seconds, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 15 page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud. He watches the well-dressed man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bud says to the man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The man thinks about it for a couple of seconds and then says, "Okay, why not?"

"You're a consultant," says Bud.

"Wow! That's correct," says the well dressed man, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already know, to a question I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about cows ... this is a herd of sheep.

"Now give me back my dog."

De oorlogspaus

De controverse over de rol van Pius XII in de tweede wereldoorlog blijft maar aanslepen.

"Pope bashing" is een blijft een uiterst populaire sport, waaraan ook een broer van een gewezen eerste minister, een notoir papenvreter, zich "gewijd" heeft.

Als notoir "contrarian" voel ik mij verplicht de aandacht te trekken op volgend artikel, met als titel "Puis XII redde waarschijnlijk meer joden dan alle (wereld) leiders samen."

Die hypthese lijkt mij minstens even aanvaardbaar als de door de Sovjets in de wereld gestuurde berichten die nu met veel vlijt onderhouden worden door politiek correcte "wetenschappers" en godsdiensthaters.

Andorra

I spent a week in minuscule Andorra and its immediate environment. The country is of an outstanding and enchanting natural beauty, but except for mountain hiking and skiing, there is almost nothing to be done or seen.

The principality has a surface of some 468 km2, consists of three valleys and has two co-princes : the bishop of La Seu d'Urgell in Spain and the president of the French republic (as a successor to the comte de Foix). The co-princes met for the last time in 1978 ; at that moment in time they had not met for 800 years (in 1278 to be exact). The official language is Catalan but most inhabitants speak Spanish and French too. Most of the work force is foreign and conditions to become Andorran are extremely severe.

Although the principality has not known war since 1277, its architectural heritage is almost non existant except for its treasure trove of magnificent roman churches and chapels.

Andorra has but one main road which links it to France and Spain. The pass separating it from France is the highest one in the Pyrenees at over 2400 meters. It is kept open all year through. From that point it is all down hill to the Spanish border at a height of some 840 meter. The total length of the road, from border to border, is about 35 km.

Andorra has left the middle ages fairly recently : up to the second world war, people in the isolated mountain valleys lived very much as they did hundreds of years before. In the last decades, economic evolution has been extremely fast : it is based on tourism mainly and on the fact that Andorra is considered a fiscal paradise by some.

Andorrans appear to be very proud of their principality, which has been recognised by the UN in 1993 only (it never was a real democracy). Andorra still is not a member of the EU ; may be that is the only positive point in its present status.

.

The principality now is firmly in the claws of ultra liberal market forces ; it social laws and security are absolutely minimal. The system always was and remains very unjust as all its taxes were and are indirect and thus weigh much more heavily on its poorer inhabitants than on its rich ones.

.

But many Andorrans shot from utter poverty less than a century ago to wealth. One of the signs is the building activity one sees everywhere and which is rapidly ruining the character of the seven parishes and of the valleys. People who haven't been in Andorra for twenty years simply do not recognise the region any more.

I am glad I visited the principality, but I do not have the slightest urge to visit it again.

By the way we were told that last winter was extremely severe and long with abundant snow : many ski stations were open until early May.

Blackmail ?

British Airways asks staff to work unpaid for up to a month.

First : once again, employees are the "dindon de la farce".

Second : airlines are in for a very rough time anyway ; there is significant overcapacity and mismanagement worldwide. And a very major part of demand can only be sustained because real transport prices are not taken into account in the price setting (air transport is one of the major sources of pollution which is largely free).

Wouldn't it be better to let the company go bankrupt ?

Het moderniseren van de winkel is blijkbaar totaal mislukt. Misschien is het tijd om eens terug te kijken wat er allemaal verkeerd gegaan is ? En er zijn elders in de wereld voorbeelden genoeg waar het Belgisch episcopaat misschien wel eens iets van zou kunnen leren.

Nog maar eens een lijstje, maar goed voor mij, want ik heb een bloedhekel aan de zee. Ik heb die eindeloze plas altijd al gehaat en ik vind er niets aan. Geen haar op mijn hoofd dat eraan denkt op vakantie te gaan aan de zee, of er zelfs maar te gaan wandelen. Brrr.

Dus blijkt nu dat de zee nergens zo smerig is als bij ons. Dat zal nog wel voor andere onderwerpen dan de zee gelden zeker ?

Licht gestoord ?

Na een kort verblijf in het buitenland zit ik weer aan mijn PC. Blijkbaar is er niets veranderd, zeker niet ten goede. Alhoewel : een van de politieke Bartjes die ik niet kan uitstaan, schijnt van het toneel verdwenen te zijn na de pandoering die zijn partij gekregen heeft. Uiterst verdiend ten andere - de verdwijning bedoel ik dan. Spijtig dat een ander Bartje het zo goed deed ...

Verder lijkt de website van De Standaard nog altijd even onbetrouwbaar, onregelmatig en traag ;

-- vindt de voorzitter van Unizo dat de ondernemingen de grootste slachtoffers van de crisis zijn (http://www.standaard.be/Artikel/Detail.aspx?artikelId=D52BDLBJ). En de werklozen dan ? Quantité négligeable zeker ? Dat zijn we het best gewoon ... ;

-- en wil een of andere Flaamse politieker dat de eed van trouw aan de koning afgeschaft wordt (http://www.standaard.be/Artikel/Detail.aspx?artikelId=DMF20090614_003).

Kortom, kleinzieligheid blijft alom troef : Flaanderen op zijn best.

Toch heeft de Flaming nog maar eens bewezen dat hij erom schreeuwt aan het lijntje gehouden te worden met valse of lege beloften - zie het aantal voorkeurstemmen van een genaamde Guy, maar hij is blijkbaar niet de enige ...

Misschien moet ik toch maar definitief naar een of andere uithoek van Frankrijk verhuizen. Een week zonder Flaamse kranten en zonder nieuws lijkt wel het paradijs op aarde.

The beginning of the end

Yesterday afternoon I almost quarreled with some close relations who can or will not understand how I can continue to consider myself a loyal Belgian. Not much needed to start a heated discussion these days ...

And please, believe you me, those people are (were) no extremists. Some of them consider themselves to be brimming with understanding and compassion for every single human being, as long as these do not live in Brussels or in southern Belgium. They think it is high time to kick out the Walloons, the arrogant "Brusseleers" and other "fransquillons". They believe it is time to stop paying through our noses for the scandals and extravaganza's of the south.

In less than a decade the perfidious influence of media and politicians have turned around a very significant part part of the tolerant - or indifferent - Flemish population into a herd of half blind (f)lemmings. Flanders is shifting, and shifting rapidly. A stupid and dangerous move if you ask me.

But when a dangerous nincompoop like Mangain once more puts into question the delicate equilibria in this country, (see http://www.standaard.be/Artikel/Detail.aspx?artikelId=DMF31052009_005) and when apparently he is followed by herds of flemish eating Brusseleers, even I am starting to think that it may be time to cut the umbilical cord.

OK, I know it's election time. But I do not like being kicked in the shins time and again.

So the thought comes : severe the links and let them float away - to hell if needed.
