Leontien's mother of course was Antonia De Vidts, an elder sister of my mother's maternal grandfather Felix De Vidts. I explained this in detail in a number of earlier posts. I can trace that De Vidts line back to the early sixteen hundreds.
But as stated before, the line of the De Schepper's stopped with Joanna Maria's grandfather Judocus. Today, digging through the data of Rik Van Hauwe, I found - quite by accident - a link to Rita Van Isveldt's data for Pamel, which allowed me to add seven generations to the De Schepper line : seven couples and their children. Not bad for one day's work, isn't it ? So, another line is opened up to the early 1600s.

On that day, my youngest uncle was born to my paternal grandparents. He was their seventh child. His name was Etienne Theodore Timmermans. He passed away three days later, on January 14 1939. According to my notes he was born and died in Ninove. That is possible, but not really probable : my grandparents lived in Meerbeke and it was not really usual for children to be born in a maternity. Most children were born at home.
I do not really know what happened. I always knew he had lived for a very short time, but such painful occurrences were not talked about in the family.

Het is niet de eerste keer dat ik dat opmerk en het zal waarschijnlijk wel meer gebeuren zonder dat ik het weet, want zo frequent lees ik die commentaren nu ook weer niet : het moet al "lukken" dat een artikel mij genoeg interesseert om de bijbehorende commentaren door te nemen.
Ik heb een courante naam en al mijn naamgenoten hebben het volste recht om voor hun mening uit te komen. Maar ik zou niet graag hebben dat sommige lezers gaan extrapoleren en een bepaald persoon - in casu mezelf - onder die meningen gaan schuiven.

Staatshervorming
De voorzitter van het Vlaamse parlement, die zich stilaan een niet benijdenswaardige reputatie aan het opbouwen is, stelt voor om een nieuwe commissie in het leven te roepen : de commissie staatshervorming, waarin het Vlaamse parlement nadenkt over de dialoog met de Franstaligen.
De heer voorzitter "is zelf bereid om de rol van coördinator in een nieuwe dialoog met de Franstaligen te spelen."

But we have no other statistics to check them off with (no one in his right mind is going to add up Chinese imports in all countries all over the world - I think) and sooner or later it had to happen anyway.
The political and economic focus of the world moved from Africa (first humans) to the Middle East, then to Europe, then to North America : now it is China's turn. Asia had fantastic civilisations long before the West had, but they never dominated the world, as the West did.
When one considers the profound changes which each of these moves brought, one wonders what the world will look like in the not too distant future.
Two exemples : universal human rights and democracy are western inventions. Will they survive ?
