May 8 1945

Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day) was May 8 1945, the day when the World War II allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of nazi Germany and the end of Hitler's third Reich, the most beastly and inhuman regime ever.

On April 30, Hitler committed suicide during the battle for Berlin ; so the surrender of Germany was authorised by his replacement, admiral Karl Dönitz.

The unconditional surrender of Germany was signed at Rheims on May 7 and ratified at Berlin on May 8. But May 8 marks the formal celebration of the Allies' victory in Europe during World War II.

I see no trace of this anniversary in my paper. May 1968, sure ; the world expo in Brussels in 1958, of course. But the end to that regime of satanic and barbaric butchery, sorry but no ...

Maybe we should not remind on eastern neighbors of certain "errors" their parents and grandparents committed ?
