War criminals

Major parts of the West European press are semi delirious with the arrest of a top war criminal in Serbia. Well done, although it took thirteen years of ill will and hypocrisy to find him.

But how many more war criminals are walking around scot free and will never be arrested or even disturbed ? How many more war criminals are still active all around the world ? How many people are killed or maimed daily by these crapulous dogs ?

Let us not forget that every country in the world, however large or small, however democratic or dictatorial, has its number of potential war criminals and mass murderers who just bide their time.

And let us not forget either that structures and circumstances can turn civilized citizens in mass murderers too.

So, it is good that this terrible madman has been arrested. Maybe, just maybe some of the descendants of his victims may find closure now. But, on a global scale, it means next to nothing, because we all are hypocrites who fail to act when action is most needed.

One of the reasons for writing this post is that I am absolutely certain that we have our share of potential war criminals in Belgium too. Just give them the right circumstances.

We think that it could not happen here : that is the most dangerous b*s* I ever heard !

Ik hoor een grote gelijkenis tussen het zinloze gewauwel van de Vlaamse en van de Servische nationalisten.
Dat stelt mij echt niet gerust !

For a better understanding of what really happened in Serbia, you need to read "Media Cleansing: Dirty Reporting" (Journalism and Tragedy in Yugoslavia) by Peter Brock. Hitler created the propaganda technique of "the big lie" in Mein Kampf. Goebbels acknowledged it in 1942: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it people will eventually come to believe it."

Dear friend, I think I understand what you are driving at.

Please note that I wrote : " But how many more war criminals are walking around scot free and will never be arrested or even disturbed ? "

There always are two sides to a coin. In Yugoslavia, there may have been more.

My main point was that this can happen anywhere, even here in small "peaceful" Belgium.
