July 5 1635

Judocus De Winne (De Wenne) died in Okegem, where he was buried the next day. He was a son of Joannes and of Beatrijs Van der Smessen and married Passchasia Schets, daughter of Hendrik.
Judocus and Passchasia were "buitenpoorters" of Geraardsbergen in 1631. Passchasia remarried after her husband's death.

A lot of documents concerning Judocus and his family survived. That is most probably how his family has been "reassembled" by Dr Herman Van Isterdael. This household is a good illustration of how church records can be significantly complemented by other historical sources.

The children :

-- Judocus was born ca 1619 and lived in Wilmerdonk when he married Maria Huyberts Van den Elshout. The marriage took place in Okegem in 1665.

-- Petrus married twice : his first spouse was Catharina Goossens, the second Anna sConinckx. Petrus and Anna are my ancestors. See the post "May 12 1646".

-- Joannes. We know his name, and nothing else.
-- Maria married Henricus Steens.
-- Egidius. In 1675 he lived too far away to become the guardian of his brother Judocus's children.
-- Elisabeth, the housekeeper of the parish priest of Okegem died in 1669. In 1161 she married Andreas Du Bois, schoolteacher in Ninove. Her husband died in 1668.
-- Barbara married Judocus Van Landuyt, sexton in Iddergem. The marriage took place in Okegem in 1663.
-- Francisca was Barbara's twin sister.

The first mention of the De Winne family name in Okegem is documented in 1571.

Methodological note :

in most of this blog I have chosen to label the family names of my direct forebears only - excluding for instance the family names of the husbands/wives of brothers and sisters of my forebears. There have been a few exceptions. From now on I will be strict : only the family names of my direct forebears will be labeled.
