The straw that broke

A plodding camel all these years,
I strode, I served like all my peers.
Conserving what I knew I'd need,
I paid no heed to others' greed.
My thirst for excess I suppressed,
Believing so of all the rest;
Just trekking on to greener dreams,
Of green oases with clear streams.

With little warning came the cry,
Your oases died, the streams run dry.
Far too old for further treks,
My oasis gone, my green dreams wrecks,
I stand bewildered, old heart grieving,
Mad at those whose greedy thieving,
Led me down this waterless track,
And dropped the straw that broke my back.
