Rik Vanhauwe has published the Status Animarum for the parish of Meerbeke for 1757. To the best of my knowledge, Meerbeke is one of the few parishes in the region for which relatively little genealogical work has been done. This is an important addition. My heartfelt thanks to mister Vanhauwe and the person(s) who did the work.
In 1757 Meerbeke counted 315 households (dwellings ?) with a total of 1603 people.
Concentrations of more than 20 dwellings (generally more huts than houses) were to be found on
de Plaetse 45 houses ; Steene brugghe 21 houses ; Ternath 53 houses ; Denderstraete 21 houses ; Borrendam intra portam Ninovienseni 29 houses plus 11 houses "extra portem".
Schalkem counted 3 houses ; Hemmerijck (gehucht) 17 houses ; Valley straete 16 houses ; Nepe 16 houses ; Prindael 17 houses ; ten Berghe 13 houses ; Clapstraete 9 and Wolfputte 8 houses ; ter Hoesbeek 16 and Poulck 13 houses.
