President Obama yesterday scolded Wall Street bankers who received millions of dollars in bonuses last year, calling the payouts "shameful" and chiding the executives for a lack of personal responsibility at a precarious time for the nation's economy.
"There will be time for them to make profits, and there will be time for them to get bonuses," the clearly irritated president said. "Now's not that time. And that's a message that I intend to send directly to them."

Well done, mister president. But do you really think that scolding will help ? In an ideal world - which the USA is not - those vultures and sharks should be removed from office before public money flows to their institutions. But who am I to raise my voice ? I'm not even an American.
But I read a lot of American weblogs, and apparently a large slide of the American population still likes thieving cowboys and robber barons. Not to make too fine a point of it, for those Americans all things private are good ; all things public are bad, or a necessary evil. That is a dogm very deeply imbedded in many an American soul.
