Little Rock

Fifty years ago, on September 25 1957, nine black students, forced to withdraw from Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas because of unruly white crowds, were escorted to class by members of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.

This event for a long time was saluted as the beginning of the end of American "apartheid" and segregation: see

Little Rock may have signaled the end of open and blatant segregation, but fifty years later, racism is alive and kicking in the USA and elsewhere ...
