Cirque de Gavarnie

winter and summer ...
A "must excursion" from Lourdes, and a famous tourist trap,
although a magnificent one.
Spain is on the other side of the crest.

On Christmas Day 2007, one café was open. The coffee was terrible, undrinkable at 3.5 € a cup. No wafers or pies were available and not a single souvenir shop was open. And no horses or monkeys were present, except for the visitors of course. Still a very nice trip, and so much calmer than in summer. The Pyrenees are of an awesome, breathtaking beauty.
If ever you need the address of an outstanding independent bus driver in Lourdes, let me know. Come snow or ice, the guy is a miracle worker.

Any good observer will see that the winter picture has been taken closer to the Cirque than the summer picture.
